“The Aliens and Immigration (Amendment) Law of 2012”
The Aliens and Immigration Law has been recently amended, in order to transpose EU “Council Directive 2009/50/EC on the conditions of entry and residence of third-country nationals for the purposes of highly qualified employment”, into Cyprus Law. More specifically, the purpose of the new amendment is to determine the conditions of entry and residence for more than three months, in the territory of the Republic, of third-country nationals for the purpose of highly qualified employment as “EU Blue Card” holders, and their family members. The new Law clarifies the definition of "highly qualified employment", in addition to the terms "EU Blue Card" and "third-country national". Under the said Law, Cyprus authorities may withdraw or refure to renew an EU Blue Card in specific cases (also defined in the Law).
